The AWC
is continuously growing and developing ways to enhance the advancement of women
in the construction industry. Below are some of the milestones and accomplishments
the AWC has achieved in recent
years:
- AWC was featured
in three articles in Finance & Commerce (March, 2006).
- Women's Business Monthly published a feature article on the AWC
(August, 2005).
- Partnering agreement established the AGC of Minnesota (2005).
- AWC raises funds
annually for scholarships awarded to female students majoring in construction
trades. Scholarships to date exceed $28,500.
- AWC holiday celebrations
often provide donations to organizations dedicated to improvement of women and
their health.
*Hope Chest for Breast Cancer has received $1,200.
*Co-Sponsored event with Women Venture generated over $600 to
benefit working women in the trades.
* AWC provided
a large donation to Jacob's Closet. This program provided clothes for women making
it back into the workplace.
* AWC provided
a traditional turkey dinner for women in need at a women's shelter in St. Paul.
We also provided Santa, Mrs. Santa and an elf to give the children a special Christmas
gift.
- AWC has organized
and facilitated "Day at the Capitol" to introduce women business owners to Minnesota
Legislators. Carol Molnau has been a guest speaker at several of our events.
- Many of our members have been recognized in the industry through
various awards relating to entrepreneurial business management and successful
growth in a non-traditional industry.
- AWC provides critical
educational opportunities for women business owners, including topics such as
Project Labor Agreements, good faith, certification, accounting and understanding
profits.
- AWC launched and
continues to develop their Web site.
- An executive director was placed in the organization in 2004.
