Since 1995, the dedicated and knowledgeable staff
of the AWC has offered beneficial
services and support to its members. While the AWC
does place an emphasis on enhancing the growth and development
of the construction industry as a whole, the AWC
also promotes the growth and development of the individual woman
business owner member by presenting educational workshops and seminars to help
improve professional business skills. Topics have included programs on contract
law, Minnesota prevailing wage issues, safety and OSHA standards, accounting practices
for contractors, project labor agreements and certification programs for women
and minority businesses.
The AWC also provides
an inclusive and welcoming forum for women contractors in Minnesota to network
with each other, and offer professional and personal advice and support. The AWC
has represented women business owners in the construction industry
at the St. Paul Summit, The St. Paul Partnering Committee, The Annual Construction
Exchange, Women and Minority Business Advisory Committees or forums with state
agencies, the Metropolitan Airports Commission, Hennepin County and the University
of Minnesota.
Members of the AWC
include women who bid work in the construction industry as general contractors,
specialty subcontractors, material suppliers and trucking businesses. As contractors
or material suppliers, they are working statewide on residential and commercial
projects as vertical contractors, or on transportation-related projects building
roads, bridges, airports and waterways.
